Infill Compliance Team Update

Posted on September 23rd, 2016

On March 22, 2016, City Council directed City staff to create an integrated inspection and enforcement team that will perform routine inspections at infill sites in mature neighbourhoods.

The new Infill Compliance Team is comprised of a Community Standards Peace Officer, a Development Compliance Officer and a Safety Codes Officer to ensure that all types of issues can be addressed on site. The team is working together to inspect and monitor active infill sites and have already begun proactive inspections.

Citizens can report issues on infill construction sites to the City of Edmonton 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Contact us by phone at 311 - in Edmonton or 780.442.5311 - outside Edmonton or by email at

UPDATE: At Urban Planning Committee on April 5, 2017, it was reported that after a two-month trial period, only one Safety Codes infraction was shown outside of regular inspections. Administration determined that the due to the small volume of Safety Codes infractions, training the other members of the team to identify the infractions was a better use of resources. Safety Codes officers still remain available on request to attend team inspections if it is deemed necessary.
