Meet Karly, a resident of Edmonton’s 124 Street area and an advocate for sustainable homes. Explore the garden suite that she built in her backyard that has become a ‘science project’ taken on by the builder and the University of Calgary in an effort to research the positive impacts of this kind of development.
Karly integrated energy efficient elements throughout her garden suite - several solar panels are used as the main source of energy for the garden suite as well as an energy provider for their main house. The sustainable and environmentally focused design is an added benefit of innovative infill developments.
Garden suites can benefit homeowners, renters, communities and the environment by providing more housing in our core neighbourhoods and by contributing to Edmonton’s sustainable energy-use and growth.
