“Infill is important to building a sustainable city.”
If you’ve been listening to the conversation about infill in Edmonton, you’ve probably heard that before.
But you might be wondering what it means. What is a “sustainable city”? Is Edmonton not sustainable as is? And how can infill be part of the solution?
Building a Sustainable City
“Edmonton is growing, and keeping pace with this growth is a challenge.”
That’s from page 16 of the City of Edmonton’s 2015 Growth Monitoring Report.
A sustainable city is one that can keep up with its growth while offering all the vibrancy, opportunity, and services that we enjoy today.
It means coming up with ways to maintain, and hopefully even improve, our environment, the social fabric of our city, and our economics.
Infill has a part to play in all of it.
